Pepperdine Chamber Choir to Perform Bach's St. John's Passion on Good Friday

On April 14 at 7:30 PM, the Pepperdine Chamber Choir and the choirs at Ascension Lutheran Church will perform J. S. Bach's St. John Passion—one of the most significant classical religious works ever composed for chorus and orchestra. The concert will take place at Ascension Lutheran Church in Thousand Oaks and is free and open to the public. This dramatic musical rendering of the story of Christ's betrayal, trial, crucifixion, and burial will feature the talents of student and professional soloists as well as an orchestra.

As Bach is considered the preeminent Lutheran composer of all time, it is particularly meaningful that this concert will be performed in 2017—the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in Europe. It is also significant that the performance will take place on Good Friday—the designated day during Holy Week for the reading of the passion of Christ according to the Gospel of St. John since the mid-fifth century.
