Gibson / MartelliBritish electronic arts duo Gibson / Martelli will visit Pepperdine University’s Malibu campus for a special presentation in the Surfboard Room at Payson Library on Monday, February 18, at 6 PM. The discussion will be followed by a demonstration in the Genesis Lab at 7 PM.

Bruno Martelli and Ruth Gibson are two London-based artists who experiment with making live simulations using performance capture technology, computer generated models, and virtual reality. Their exhibitions are built using game engines and surround sound speakers with the goal of making the viewer feel fully immersed in the exhibit. Much of the duo’s work is focused on the role that self plays in the experience of art and combines familiar tropes of video games with traditional artistic concepts of figure and landscape.

Gibson / Martelli have had their pieces exhibited in art galleries around the world, including residencies in Australia, China, New Zealand, and North America, and at exhibitions at The Barbican Gallery, Detroit Institute for Art, and The Venice Biennale. They have had several solo shows together, like “80°N” and “Man A”, and their work “Igloo 1995-2010” was nominated for a British Academy of Film & Television Arts. The artists’ current project, “We Are Here and We are Everywhere at Once,” is selected for the Lightmoves Screendance Festival this November.
