Davenport Institute Launches Golden Governance Blog

The Davenport Institute for Public Engagement and Civic Leadership at the School of Public Policy recently launched a new blog, Golden Governance, which focuses on government and citizen collaboration to provide services in California communities. The blog is a joint project of the Davenport Institute and the National Conference on Citizenship.

Golden Governance came about in response to the difficult economic times facing the cities, towns, and counties across California. Pete Peterson, executive director of the Davenport Institute, explains, “The premise of Golden Governance is an old, uniquely American one, but based on the most current circumstances: How can California’s local governments, in the midst of a continuing and historic financial crisis, work with residents and civic organizations to deliver services in the best interests of their communities?”

The state now tackles some of its toughest governance challenges with a new collaborative approach, which includes greater public participation in decision making and service delivery. The blog offers a place where local leaders and community members from around California can share their “Stories of Success” as they work together in new ways to provide services and solve problems.

Golden Governance joins the Davenport Institute’s three other citizen participation blogs, Gov2.0Watch and BigSocietyWatch, which launched in April, and inCommon, which relaunched earlier this year.
